In conjunction with EnergyAustralia, LESS ran a unique community campaign to deliver and install high quality, high power factor energy-saving light bulbs in the Sydney suburbs of Balmain, Drummoyne and surrounds, an area which covers around 20,000 households.
Over a period of 6 months, a team of trained and uniformed door-to-door installers delivered the ‘Energy Savings Home Delivered’ service to residents and select businesses. Targeted marketing, media and promotional activities ran in parallel, with assistance and support from Leichhardt and Canada Bay Councils. These included local press stories, outdoor advertising and work with community stakeholders.
At the time of its launch, the ‘Energy Savings Home Delivered’ light bulb installation project was the first of its kind in the country. It has also successfully been one of the largest, with over 80,000 bulbs installed in over 6,000 households - exceeding the initial targets and saving more than 60,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the bulbs’ lifetime.
Preliminary results from EnergyAustralia demand profiles indicate a positive impact of the program in reducing peak demand (0.9MVA compared to 1MVA target).
