Every Little bit counts
Global warming - it’s so hot right now. How do you look good without destroying the
environment? Does using your hairdryer really contribute to climate change? How do you reduce your emissions without cutting down on your curry consumption?
As the newest ambassador for the Live Green with LESS project that has been operating in Kingston since late last year, comedian and actor Wendy Little has been pondering these questions and more.

Turn off your power and get empowered by joining in The Big Switch Off!
LESS is a proud sponsor of The Big Switch Off 2007 which is being hosted on 6-7 October. This community project is inviting people to get involved and reduce their contribution to climate change, by stopping consuming energy for as long as possible over 24 hours and to think about it. It's also about the joys of getting back to basics and finding out what you can do when you're not using power. Check it out at The Big Switch Off 2007.

Perth residents in WA first air conditioning trial
Western Power, along with project partners including LESS, has launched an exciting new demand management project in Perth. The electricity company is inviting 6000 residents in select suburbs of Perth to take part in an air conditioning trial, to see if electricity use at peak times during the WA summer can be lowered without affecting people's comfort level. Volunteers will be offered $100 or a donation to a chosen charity for participating, and receive the additional benefits of doing something positive for the environment as well as helping to avoid building additional network capacity.
The trial is only available at this stage to residents in the Nedlands, Claremont and Dalkeith suburbs for the 2007/08 summer. Similar trials undertaken in South Australia and elsewhere have shown great success with positive customer feedback. For more information, visit Cool Community - Clean Future.

Energy savings home-delivered
to thousands
In the last week of the Energy
Savings Home Delivered Program with EnergyAustralia, our team
of installers had surpassed their target
of 60,000 bulbs and were working on energy
savings over and above this goal. The program
was run by LESS under contract to EnergyAustralia
and with the support of Leichhardt and Canada
Bay Council.
Residents in Balmain, Birchgrove,
Drummoyne and surrounding suburbs took up
the offer of free lightbulbs in their home.
The service ran for 6 months all up, and
the accumulated savings are equivalent to
80,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases or taking
1400 cars off the road forever. More information
about the scheme is available at the Energy
Savings Home Delivered web page.
